This Sоdier Refusеd To Leаve Siсk Kittеn Bеhind In Afghanistаn

Christine Weber Bouldin was serving in Afghanistan back in 2008, when a very special little kitten came into her life and changed it for the better. “I’d never seen a cat like that,” the woman told PEOPLE. “I felt so sorry for her. She couldn’t stand up and would flip over.” Turned out the feline had Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), a non-progressive disease that affects motor skills. That’s why the kittie wobbles when he walks. Bouldin named the cat Felix, and fell so in love with her, she decided to do everything to take the kittie back home…

She paid a driver $300 to pick up Felix from their base and transport her to Constable’s pet shelter in Kabul, which was supposed to look after the kittie until Bouldin could fly the cat to the States. “It was a little over an hour to get to our base from Kabul, and you’re always in danger of IEDs …I was worried about her. I didn’t know if I’d see her again— if they wouldn’t allow me to bring her home. I’m pretty sure I cried,” Bouldin remembers.

But everything went fine, and when Bouldin returned home some months later, she paid $2,000 in shipping costs to fly Felix home. “I didn’t even care what I had to pay,” says Bouldin. She believed their connection was worth it.

Today the kittie still lives with Bouldin, her husband, and their male cat Gus in Lakewood, Colorado. Bouldin says that Felix helped her through tough times a lot, and believes the cat is“an angel sent to me from God.”
