Meet Meowseph Stalin, who is the latest kitty to go viral on the internet.
His story begins when he was adopted as a kitten last year by 23 year old student Anne Sofie who instantly feel in love with his moustache and knew that he was the kitty for her. After taking him home Anne, and her boyfriend Dan, realised that bore a striking resemblance to the dictator so decided to call him Meowseph Stalin.
Anne says “I found Stalin at this Norwegian website in May 2013 when I was studying in Japan. I completely fell for his adorable face and moustache. In the pictures I got from the owners at the time, he always had a really smug, distinguished face that charmed me to death. ”
Her love of cats began at the tender age of 14 when she persuaded her parents to take in an abandoned kitten, this love continued to grow while she was away from home studying in Japan. She realised that life is so much better with a cat around and when she saw photos of Meowseph and his brother Durin on the internet so knew they were the kitties for her. Luckily for Anne the previous owners held on to the kittens until her return from Japan.
Once home she discovered that the dictator lookalike was a real terror, he would steal food off the kitchen counter and was constantly breaking and knocking things over. Since then he has calmed down a lot and is now a contented kitty who loves nothing better than to be cuddled and given treats.
It was when, out of boredom one day, she decided to start up an Instagram page dedicated to her favourite moggy, that his popularity began to rise and he now has over 8,000 faithful followers. She also started a Facebook page and he even has his own clothing line.
She said “We have had some comments from people saying we’re terrible people for giving him this name and making joke about it. Of course we have never meant to insult anybody by naming our cat Stalin. We’re not exactly the first people to name their cat after a terrible dictator, and mean no harm with parodying Stalin. We just try to brighten up people’s Instagram and Facebook feeds by making people laugh at our silly cat and his captions.”
