Poliсe: Cat with brоken legs, eуe injurу abandоned at I-95 rеst stoр in Dаrien

DARIEN — Police say a seriously injured cat was found abandoned last week at an Interstate 95 rest stop, writes thehour

New Canaan police on Tuesday said their animal control officer responded to the I-95 rest stop in Darien on Jan. 24 after someone found an abandoned cat carrier.

The cat was found at the northbound Darien rest stop, according to New Canaan Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm. State police investigated, and Halm said she responded as mutual aide because Darien animal control was not available

Officers took the cat to a local veterinarian because of the cold temperatures. The vet determined the cat had two broken legs and trauma to the right eye, police said.

The department has since given the cat the name “Highway.”

Animal control reached out to Norwalk-based PAWS for medical help for the cat’s injuries.

Ellen Simmonds, executive director of PAWS, said Highway will need to undergo surgery, including having metal plates inserted to address the “severe and disjointed” breaks in his front legs.
