The problem with shelters stems from a conflict of supply and demand.
In areas like Southern California, the supply shelter pets is very high. This leads to overcrowding in animal shelters that are underfunded. The demand for shelter pets is just not high enough in those area. Which unfortunately makes euthanasia very common. It’s very sad because these are healthy animals, ready for love from a family.
Recently, several organizations have been started with a clever solution to this problem: transport high risk pets from high kill shelters to no-kill shelters, where they are more demand for pets.
Wings of Rescue, formed in 2013. They utilize an all volunteer team of pilots. They fly at risk pets across the country. So far, they have saved 26,000 pets from being put down.
But, there is a challenge. Transporting animals across the country, does not come cheap. So, that’s where the Second Chance Movement comes into the picture. Every item purchased from this new product line, funds a specific number of miles of air, and ground transport costs. This effectively moves shelter animals from danger to safety.
Your support unlocks a second chance for these animals to have a key to a new and better life.
The Second Chance Movement has also partnered with GreaterGood.org. They donate miles for every product in the Second Chance Movement collection to charities that ease the transportation of adoptable pets which come from areas of low demand, to areas of high-demand. Many of these pets would have been euthanized in just a matter of days. Thankfully, through this program, they are living, not dying.
A beautiful example of how all it takes to save cat/dog lives, is for people to come together. Share with friends!
